Dr Sumi Saha is a highly skilled robotic and advanced laparoscopic gynaecological surgeon who provides minimally invasive solutions for complex gynaecological conditions. This approach allows for precise procedures, reduces discomfort and shortens recovery times for her patients.
Dr Saha achieved specialist registration in Australia as an obstetrician and gynaecologist, obtaining Fellowship with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG) in 2019. She graduated from Dhaka University with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 2005. Later, she obtained the DRANZCOG Advanced Diploma from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) in 2011.
To enhance her academic and clinical expertise, Dr Saha completed two Master’s degrees. The first, in Reproductive Endocrinology, was awarded by the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in 2013. The second, in Pain Medicine, was completed at the University of Sydney in 2019. These qualifications equip her to help women manage endometriosis and pelvic pain using the latest knowledge and techniques. Dr Saha’s goal is to improve the quality of life for every woman experiencing pelvic pain.
Dr Saha manages various pelvic pain conditions, including:
Dr Saha is a Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) at both National Capital Private Hospital and Calvary Bruce Private Hospital, where she performs robotic-assisted and laparoscopic surgeries.
Dr Saha is an infertility gynaecologist whose goal is to work with the latest research using medicines, lifestyle and surgery to treat conditions that can cause infertility in both females and males. These include:
Techniques she uses are
Robotic and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery Offered
Robotic surgery is a technique that combines the benefits of laparoscopic surgery and more. In the same way that laparoscopic surgery uses small incisions to allow instruments to be inserted into the abdomen via a port to perform the operation, robotic surgery adds the benefit of specialised robotic instruments with joints. These joints allow the instruments to work as our hands do, increasing the dexterity of the instrument and the delicacy of the work that can be done. The camera and view screen for the surgeon provide 3D images to improve the detail, making any tissue removal clearer. This is important in endometriosis surgery, where removing as much of the endometrial tissue as possible is improved due to the dexterity of the instruments and the increased detail of the camera image. The surgeries that can be performed robotically include:
Hysteroscopy and Cystoscopy
Dr Saha also performs procedures using a specialised camera to look inside the uterus (known as hysteroscopy) and inside the bladder (known as cystoscopy).
Gynaecology
Infertility
Laparoscopic Surgery
Pain Medicine
Sumi speaks Bengali, Hindi and Urdu and is happy to offer consultations to patients in these languages.
Many procedures do not require a hospital admission. Dr Saha can perform procedures in her rooms using a local anaesthetic. Procedures included are:
Hysteroscopy and Cystoscopy
